How do you find out which type of project is right for you?

Nowadays there are so many different project types, but how do you find out which of these project methods suits you best?

In the world of project management, there is ‘no one size fits all’ solution. Each project has its own characteristics and each project team has specific needs. Due to the wide range of available type of projects, it is sometimes difficult to determine which one best suits your project. Before you feel overwhelmed, it’s good to know that Getscope makes the choice a little easier for you.

Whether you’re a seasoned project manager looking for more flexibility and control or you’re new to the world of project management and could use some help navigating a project. Choosing a type of project should be easy. However, that is not really an answer to that pressing question: how do you determine which type of project suits you best?

In this article, we’ll take you through the different project types Getscope has to offer. We explain how they work and what kind of projects they are most suitable for. But that’s not all – we also cover how to easily switch between different project types, so you can adapt the project management approach as your project changes and grows.

Project management doesn’t have to be complicated. With the right tool you can streamline your processes, improve collaboration within your team and ensure that your project is completed before the deadline. So buckle up and let us help you discover the type of project that’s right for you. Forget the idea that you have to adapt to the tool. Getscope adapts to you.

Which project methods does Getscope offer?

As indicated, we at Getscope offer a number of project methods. And not without reason. The founders of Getscope have worked as project managers for years and have seen what works and what doesn’t work. This knowledge has been supplemented with knowledge from external parties and has led to these five methods:

Basic board

All your work in one conveniently organized Basic Board. Choose how many columns you add and coordinate small projects. This type of project is ideal for novice project managers or professionals who sometimes need to manage, but do not have time to delve into project management. It is actually similar to Trello, a tool most of us are quite familiar with.

Due to its simple design, the Basic Board can be quickly implemented in any team. You can also share documents directly with other team members and prioritize each activity. In this way, work is also done efficiently.

Gant Chart

Work together with your team and customers in a clear Gantt Chart planning tool. If you normally swear by using Spreadsheets or Excel, you can also create a Gantt Chart in Getscope. Everything is displayed simply and is visible at a glance. Actually, they are spreadsheets with superpowers.

A Gantt Chart – also called ‘Waterfall’ in the world of project management – is an overview consisting of several rows that represent the phases of your project. It doesn’t get any clearer. As with the other project methods that Getscope offers, you can also collaborate in a Gantt Chart.

This project method is ideal for novices and advanced project managers who are used to working in Spreadsheets.

Kanban board

Collaborations at the next level is the best way we can define the Kanban Board. This is an extended version of the Basic Board. Drag projects from left to right to show what you’re working on and which tasks or projects you’ve completed. Within Getscope, we’ve added Epics (categories) to the Kanban tool so you can break your project into small, manageable parts.

You will also find a backlog environment in the Kanban Board. Ideal when good ideas arise for a later moment.

Sprint

Scrum, scrum, scrum. If you find yourself in the world of project management, there is no way you have missed that word. If you and your team want to deliver products or services in short sprints, scrum is the best choice. With our Sprint method you work in short sprints and you choose the length yourself (for example two or four weeks).

At the end of each sprint you deliver a partial or end product as a result. The Sprint method differs from the Waterfall (Gantt Chart), where delivery often takes place at the end of the process. With this method you keep more control over your deliveries and you can make adjustments more quickly.

To-Do list

The To Do list method stands for convenience and overview. See what’s on your list, cross it off and work productively every day. Collaborate with colleagues in checklists, divide the workload and get started right away. This method is suitable for dividing a project into small, daily tasks. This gives every team member the feeling that they are making progress.

Different project types for different use cases

Before Getscope existed, our founders ran into a number of problems. They were involved as project managers in various projects, from development to marketing project. And this showed that every project needs its own project type, but also that every project has similarities. Negative similarities, that is.

Especially the hassle. If you had just finished scoping your project and you had your resource planning set up correctly, the briefing will change again and you will have to shift work.

To prevent this and to help you choose a type of project, we have ensured a good onboarding where we help you choose the right type of project. There is also plenty of help and videos in Getscope itself that you can watch to see which project type suits you best. For example, if you opt for a development project, we recommend choosing the scrum method. However, for a creative project, you would be better off opting for a Basic Board or To Do list.

So you no longer have to look for the most logical layout yourself. We have already sorted that out for you.

How to easily switch between different project methods?

One of the main features of Getscope is its flexibility. While the five different project types we’ve described are each very useful in their own right, being able to switch between different methods is what really sets our tool apart.

You may choose to use one method at the start of a project, but as the project progresses, you notice that another method would be more effective. In traditional project management tools this is a problem and you have to restart from scratch in a new method. But with Getscope this problem is a thing of the past.

The tool makes it possible to switch seamlessly from one method to another, without sacrificing the efforts already made. All progress and tasks are kept, only the view is changed.

Getscope grows with your project. For every level of complexity there is a solution that makes it simpler. Maybe you start with the Sprint method, but over time you notice that the Kanban Board offers a more efficient way of working for your team.

Switching between different type of projects in Getscope is not only easy, but also efficient. It enables you to tailor your project management approach to the unique needs and challenges of each project, maximizing the chances of success.
